Veronica's Story

College I didn't go to college straight out of CHHS even though I had an AZ Regents Scholarship. I started to...but couldn't...It was too hard with an 18-month old son and a husband working the graveyard shift. I gave up the scholarship and started working, too. My mother-in-law babysat both of my sons until they started school. It wasn't until the boys were teenagers that I started college again. It was 1992 and I was amicably divorced from Tony, married to Rich and living in the East Valley. Relations were so good with Tony (the three of us presented a united front to the boys so they got in trouble three times) that he actually moved in with us as housekeeper so that I could go back to school. Z State University...all part time. It took me 7 years to get my 4-year degree, but I really enjoyed it. My sons loved scolding me and telling me to do my homework, but if you remember me from high school, you know I didn't need much scolding. I received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems in 1999...twenty years after my high school graduation. My tuition and books were paid by my employer, Salt River Project. However, when I started looking for jobs with them, they wouldn't offer me anything...even though I had been there for 13 years! Fortunately, I was in the Honors College and received several offers of employment. I took the one that promised me international travel and never looked back. After a couple of years at Intel Corporation, I received my MBA in E-Commerce through an online university.
